One of the more interesting AK47 styles available to collectors is the Maadi from Egypt . These (mostly) high quality AK47s are made on Factories that come from Russia, the mother of the AK47. Many of their parts and materials also originate with Russia and Germany which is another manufacturer of high quality AK47. The Maadi rife is very close to a 'real' AK47, of course they are semi-automatic and many were imported during the Assault Weapons Ban, so they have no bayonet lug, welded on muzzle nuts or no threads at all, and a really uncomfortable thumbhole stock. As long as you pay attention to 922r it's possible to convert these back into more appealing AK47s with traditional pistol grip, muzzle devices, etc. Enjoy these pictures and short review of this unique and increasingly rare style of AK47 (AKM) At the time we write this these Maadis are available at Tucson Guns, in Tucson, Arizona
The Maadi Ak47 post ban style almost as it was imported (may have different lower handguard) with it's sling and magazine, a sight that is getting to be more rare each day. Many of these Maadi Aks were shot (a lot) and are now worn out, or were taken apart to build other types of AK47 on their receiver (very high quality)
These are some of the best AKM receivers out there. Many collectors use these receivers to build other types (clones) of AK47 or AKM used throughout the world
Post ban Ak47s were imported with the muzzle nut welded on, or with a non threaded barrel. It's hard to believe this was a requirement by federal law...
The Egyptian symbol on the rear sight block is an easy way to tell a Maadi AK47
This post-ban style Maadi was imported by ACC / NTRAC of Knoxville,TN
The very poorly made thumbhole stock which is unique to the Maadi imports during 'the ban'. These were required for the 'new' (at the time) assault weapons ban. It's rumored that these stocks were made at the last minute and if you ever get the chance to hold one, you'll see they are not very comfortable at all. Most people change them out, remember be aware of 922r of course
